..know that feeling when you want to start your new blog entry forcefully, when you realize you haven't got a clue what to write about?
This is that moment for me
So I'l just write my impressions from the movie I've seen recently.
If you haven't seen it and want to, avoid reading for some possible spoilers.

Conan The Barbarian
My oh my what a bad movie was that.
I love the world of Conan and his character, I've read so many Conan comic books and stories in my childhood.
I consider R.E Howard one of the best story tellers in fantasy genre, alongside R.E Tolkien, George Martin and many more
Then comes the Hollywood and butt rapes everything I hold dear.
The backbone of the movie is not so bad.. A guy looses his wife and decides to resurrect her by collecting pieces of some magic mask or whatever.
No problem with that.
What I've got the problem with is the way some parts of this movie were shot. Just so naive and lame that I cant believe some people were being paid to write such a lame ass scenario to be filmed.
The opening sequences of fast forward narrative of what's going on and yada yada yada,, the moment it finishes I scream just like Conan's father screams when he pulls baby Conan out of his dead mothers womb(that scene in itself is epic, bit gruesome but still epic)
I loved the scene where young Cimmerian man were being initiated as a grown man and warriors with that running around the hill with egg in their mouths,,, then teen Conan slaughters some wild horde, returns to his village and spits out unbroken egg, that was epic as well. Dont like entirely the way it was shot, but love the idea and epicness of Conan.
The actor, Momoa, even tho I was quite disappointed when I discovered he is playing Conan, he proved me wrong. I liked him as a Conan, very fitting casting in his case, tho it would not hurt if they increased his physical size using cg trickery by at least 15%
Reading most of R.E Howards stories, I always imagined Conan as a biggest and toughest guy in the neighborhood.
Anyways, to avoid going into details, I hate how clunky and badly this movie was put together with so many holes in the story development.
The ending was just plane terrible. As if studio run out of budget and slapped the ending together in one day or something.
So predictable and shallow and inconclusive,, what a waste. I wanted to see Conan The Barbarian that can compete for oscars, that can get your emotions up high just as Lord of the Rings movies does, or Brave Heart,, but instead we were given another cinematic garbage and another successful rape of Conan franchise. YACK

Illustrated book postponed

I had so much work and freelance that I only managed tiny progress on the illustrated book project. I managed to develop storyboard but haven't been able to move past that phase.
So I came here to write it down, to try and ease the pressure I felt for not making it happen as I planned. But, I never quit, so this is something that will happen in near future for sure.
So many plans and ideas yet so little time at my disposal, but as Gandalf said it once..
"All you have to do is to decide what to do with the time given to you."
I love that quote! Don't waste your time dear readers, tho' wasting time is debatable...

Im prepping elements for children illustrated dinosaur themed book

Yep, just what the title says!
I have been thinking about it for some time actually, but never done it really. It all stayed in the back of my head. Now I plan to change that and sit down and really do it.
I wont talk about details, it is about dinosaur, one specific species. I hope it will be likeable little illustrated book. Plan is to finish it and put it up to self publishing sites till Christmas this year.
If there is response and interest I might even do small series cos I have ideas for more than one illustrated boo on the same character..
Once I get it close to final I will post page or two, and maybe cover page etc. and write about the creation experience a bit.
I think 2 months are sufficient to create a 20-something pages book, will found out quite soon if I'm wrong.

Dragon design Marathon finished

I managed to finish my Marathon in time, but have been busy after it and forgot to update the news here, so here I am now. Heh, it's weird to write this stuff that probably wont be read ever, except for me, again in 35 years when I'l laugh my old farty ass of to all this :)

Hmm, I wonder if my website will stick around for next 35 years?

Anyways, the challenge is completed, in time, thx God to that. I thought I wont make it on couple occasions due to other stuff I had on me along this Marathon. But I prevailed, and it's a great feeling I can tell that much.

Now that this is behind me, I have about ton of ideas for cool imagery with dragons and stuff.

I need to press with these and flesh out couple of really neat visuals.
I also rendered new cooler and more representative images of each dragon which can be found on my website..

Dragon design marathon reaching halfway!!

I'm reaching halfway into my personal challenge, my dragon design marathon.

It will be a rich concept art dragon gallery once finished.

Dont have to much time on me to write longer post,, instead I will put some pics of finished dragons up and leaving the link above to the complete gallery at deviant art.

When I finish the challenge, I will upload all step by step videos shot at 1fps.

There wont be all 55 dragons videos, cos sometimes my Zbrush app crashed in the middle of the modeling process causing to lose some videos...

55 Dragons Marathon

I'm about to start a Marathon!
It is going to be 3d Modeling Marathon.
Goal is to model 55 dragon designs by the end of February.
I'm going to model busts mostly, sometimes I even might get the whole body, It will mostly depend on how busy I'll be during February.
Competition, my self, I need to beat my self. Deep down inside, me thinks I wont make it, then again, there is that other me, somewhere inside my chest who thinks I will kick that "deep down inside" version of me's butt.

I should update two dragons a day in order to make it, or three or more in one day if i miss out submitting on any of the coming days..

I'm so much into it, I know about it, but I never thought about the term, who brought it up first, who are the notable representatives and those kind of things.

I could write about Paleoart for days if I wanted to and had that time, but I'l try and keep it short and simple..

Mark Hallett was the guy that came up with the term paleoart in 1970ties , and among many, he is one of those guys I respect and love his work the most.

He was the one of people who broke some of those misconceptions about cold blooded, lazy, dumbass Dinosaurs.

His, Douglas Hendersons and John Sibbicks work influenced me when I was growing up, they inspired me to do what I do now in early 1990ties and I love it since.

You wouldn't be wrong if you said, Damir G Martin, Paleoartist, cos I love making Dinosaur related illustrations and models, and sometimes even more, combining it with sci fi elements to add up to the already mysterious ancient past of our planet .

Paleoart is a form that brings Paleontology to wider audiences trough sculpture, illustrations, illustrated books and movies. Sometimes, paleoart is essential bit for paleontologists helping them better understand the fossils they dug out.

In most cases Paleoart is the last stop in paleontology. After excavation, cleaning of fossilized material, putting it together and adding(assuming) missing parts, paleoart comes into play to round up the process of determining how something might have looked, mooved, sounded like and so on.

Paleoart in it self is one of the most exciting art forms, as it gives you so much to think about. Imagination and science combined, bringing back to life monsters and creatures that inhabited our planet millions of years ago.

I love Paleoart and I love dinosaurs!

Moment before "extinction"

Short-ish sci-fi back-story brainstorm of my own!

What if somebody told you, or better yet, what if somebody proved to you that most of our understanding of the world and space around us is not entirely right? What you see here in this image is one brief moment that took place in long history of our planet.

Specifically in this case, we witness one Dinosaur species being "stored" into, what we like to call "Black hole".

"What if black holes aren't what we think they are"? Just as you and I would take pictures when visiting foreign countries so we can refresh our memories of that place later in life or for what ever other reason we take hundreds of pictures when we go about our planet...

Try to imagine technologically advanced aliens that travel trough space and store away everything they come across for whatever reason.. To save the rare life forms for them to study and experiment, to have something to remember that place by or spread that life further into the space or something completely unimaginable to our perception and understanding..

Now, for the fun part, what if that advanced alien race could artificially produce "black hole" with it's technology. And what if they could reverse it's effect at any time, from whatever point, whatever type or matter or structure..

To try to simplify my thoughts for my self firstly! I will compare this artificial black hole to a vinyl record. These alien guys could create "Black hole vinyl record"(patent pending xD) and record(suck in) virtually anything. Later on, they could use that same superb tech to "read" out anything that has been "sucked" or "stored" into the black hole and load this content back into reality...

I know it sounds far fetched and very hard to digest, as if You traveled to past and tried to explain vinyl record or usb storage devices to a cave man..I think only thing being digested in that scenario would be your leg

To conclude! Message I'm trying to convey with this piece. What if Dinosaurs haven't extinct, what if most of them were simply stored away, saved, from the planet that might have been unable to support this form of life anymore or something like that??

What if Gulf of Mexico is not point of impact of giant meteorite or asteroid, what if that is point of miniature black hole deployment that was programmed to "suck" specific matter(in this case dinosaurs and maybe other life forms) leaving barren planet behind?!.. Wouldn't that be cool

This opens up so many doors for some intriguing scifi stories... Those same tech advanced guys coming back to our planet to store some of us, or all of us at some point..

I finally got it. The mother of all BR discs ever. Alien Anthology!

This is the pinnacle for a sci-fi buff such as me, if only I could have had it when I was a kid, about 15 years ago!! Oh man, that would be disastrous for my social and educational development xD

Anyways, I took my regular once or twice a week walk to the mail box hanging in front of our house, out of mere curiosity, I cant say I expected anything more than couple of household bills and that sort of thing... and what do I find.
!!!!I found that my Amazon.UK order had just arrived!!! Alien Anthology blu ray combo containing 6 BR discs!! What a nice feeling that is, approaching the mail box and catching a glimpse of the package delivery notice, or how-ever it is called.

I'm not gonna dribble about BR content that much,,,each movie com

es in it's theatrical and special edition release which is great!! What I'm looking forward here is two Additional BR discs with over 60 hours, yes, !!!60 HOURS!!! of behind the scenes footage and stuff...brain freeze... I'm embarking on a loong and fun trip trough the world of aliens and I'm loving that fact..

Have you ever dreamed something that woke you up in sweat and/or tears and made you appreciate you are alive more than you did when you went to sleep couple hours back.
I started dreaming lately, and unlike all the time, I started remembering what I dreamed about when I woke up, and my latest couple of dreams were insane..
If I'd write about them in details, it would sound like one of Roland Emmerich disaster movie screenplays.

Lately, I have reocurring dream about alien invasion, not a friendly ones, but, "run for your life" ones.
It probably has something to do with loads of alien invasion movies hitting cinemas, hope it's not my sixth sense telling me something bad's gonna happen xD. Only problem I have with my dreams is I got no frickin control what so evar. if something can go bad it most certainly will :/
Tho' I love that sort of dreams, sometimes they make me tired and get me scared, well, at least until I realize it was just a dream.

Anyways, I gotta start thinking of some super weapon, so I can take it on my next dream journey.

I've almost completed T rex skeleton.

This should have been completed months ago, but I've put it on ice due to some other more important work I had back then and just couple of days ago I decided it's time to get it done.

These are some snaps from the Zbrush vieport.

My intention is to make it downloadable, skeleton and body mesh. Idea is to have it for learning purposes and better understanding of T rex anatomy.

This is the place where anyone who might read this blog would find out the time and place of when the T rex model will become downloadable.

Oh yeah, not to forget, the Canon 7D camera works, I had it sent to the authorized service shop and they exchange it's mirror box, and now it works like a charm for last 4-5 months or so.

Canon 7D, error 20

Bought Canon 7D about 45 days ago.

My overall impressions with the 7D performance are positive ones cos this camera is awesome.

It has ultra fast and precise focus, it's HD movie options are amazing, shutter speed is superb..

There are many more things and details that make this camera so special.

But...

I was in visit at my friend in London, and on the first day, we went out to the city so I could see some London for the first time, and as we were walking over the Westminster's bridge, I took some Big Ben pics. At that moment my Canon froze, displaying error 20 code only after couple of hours of use on that day. Used it with my brand new Canon 17-40mm L lens, powered with battery pack.

After the error message, Camera produced some weird buzzing noise(two or three time 1-sec buzzes: bzzzzz bzzzzz) when turned on and off, or when battery removed and inserted.

Dont even have to mention that any attempt on recovering from that error turned out as a waste of time.

Since it is only 45 days old, and under the warranty, I decided to send it to authorized Canon service shop.

Now, I have to wait over a month for it to be serviced, or, if that fails, replaced.

I honestly hope this wont happen again, as I would hate to quit on Canon products, cos I'm a faithful Canon buyer.

T rex skeleton 3D

Hi there,

Been some time from my last, not so constructive or informative post here.

Im taking this opportunity to post publicly for the first time about something I'm working on, on and off for some time now.

I have modeled an accurate T rex skeleton in zbrush.

I plan to add muscles and different levels of detail, maybe even rig for posing, and maybe turn it into downloadable item on the internet.

Till it happens I'm posting screen grab from zbrush of how that skeleton looks.

Loong time no post in terms of, " I wanna do the blog thing"

I guess I ain't real blogger material.

Regardless,

I was hectic busy lately, torn between my freelance career and my private projects.

The fact that I really over done it got me to bed with high temperature and really tired and warned out state of body. But I got pass that and now I'm on the same road again, workin' my ass of.

I had a nice time few days ago trying to figure out caustics in MR.

Yeah, MR. Im learning MR. cos I realized I wont progress much further using scanline alone.

Anyways, I've put up the scene, and followed the steps, and no result, no caustics, no photons.

I repeated the procedure couple times, loosing my mind over it but to no avail.

And then, I discovered that I needed to increase the photon energy pref, and just that thing sorted the entire issue.

Damn caustics, now I know how to render it.

Anyways, I'm reading this post of mine, and it is so messy, almost purposeless, but I guess I will learn how to blog if I constantly put something up, bit more often then I do....

Ok. now I'm going to interrupt this purposeless post and return to work.

Seeya in couple of weeks, hopefully sooner.

Freelancing vs Dinomonsters

Im so over my shoulders in freelancing, which is good, and bad at the same time.

Good cos it gets some money, and we need money, dont we? Bad cos I cant spend more time on my own stuff, namely, Dinomonsters... dang!

Few nights ago after I concluded a freelancing day, I couldn't sleep, so I grabbed my notebook and pencil and I started rewriting Dinomonsters.... Meaning, whole bunch of work invested before, in sketching out pilot comic book, and writing mini stories went down the drain mostly, but I'm happy cos the new story should work much better..

I hope I'l get Ty redesign finished, so I can start making some animation tests..

Of to freelance some more...

Ty redesign

Still lot's of work around Ty, DinoMonster character.

I recreated it from scratch, made some nice displacement and color textures, lonly to figure out i'm still not where i want to be with overall looks.

So now Im going from the beginning, and i hope his would be it.

here is a comparison of the head, of recently remade model and the new one.

This is how my most recent attempt to recreate Ty looks like.

Im going after more human looks, I'l try to decrease the, pure dino look by introducing some human characteristics into his face.

I was specially concerned with mouth. I want these character to be able to speak, and having reptilian snouts is somewhat a flaw if you want to be able to talk and keep it believable.

New year has begun, and so did I,

After a smaller and much desired break, I'm starting with my work and plans for the year ahead.
At the moment, I'm redoing my DinoMonster character Ty, alongside some freelance gig's, that's why it goes on bit slower than I've planed.
Here is the link to the test render.

The plan is to make it look better than the initial design obviously.
I was aiming towards more serious, menacing and movie like design, instead of stylized cartoon look he had until now.
Since it is still in the making, the test render is not the best thing for comparison just yet, but even at this stage it's obvious how different it looks now.

Still need to make some tweaks around the head and torso area, maybe some minor improvements on the body proportions,, not sure there tho' cos I want him to look little bit bulkier and stronger built.

I still have some second thoughts as to how they should be dressed up.

The bionic thumbs are going to be challenging.

I wanna create a bionic prosthesis that will look functional and cool..

Have couple ideas but It will become clear when i dig into it.

Darksiders challenge finish

I made it.
It was a tough race till the very end.
Couple of hours before the challenge officially ended I managed to finish my entry and submit it to the challenge gallery.

Main reason for being so late was cos I started the image two-three days ago, and main reason for that was cos I was pretty busy with other projects, and the lack of good ideas on how to approach the challenge.

Finally I figured I'd recreate the Watcher, the character from the game, with some of my add ups to the original design, originally from the people of the Vigil games.

As you can see from my previous blog entry, I thought I have an idea, but that turned out to be overly complicated and might be miss understood in accordance to the challenge guidelines.

Darksiders Challenge start

I had to give it a go.
Wanted to start working on the challenge last week, but had some stuff that had to be done.
Now my hands are untied.
The challenge is about "your last days of earth" and what would you do during those last days.
So I had couple of ideas swarming, but now I have figured out what would I do if there's no tomorrow, and what's more important, I figured out how would I depict that.
In short, my image will be titled, I'd get a tattoo"
I will let it to your imagination till I get it done.
As soon as I'm done I will submit the link to the image , predicting 2-3 days of work, hope it will take less cos the challenge deadline is 17th this month.

I just cant wait for Avatar to hit the cinemassss!

Im looking forward for this movie for two years now.

Ever since I came across first rumors about it I knew it is going to be fantastic, cos face it, James Cameron is a master of sci-fi.

I wont even try getting into commenting all the mean and hating comments towards Avatar of those few people on our planet, without ever having a decent argument why the hate it without even seeing it( blue cat people, they don't even look believable and so on).

But the most saddest thing of all is that most of the trash talk comes from so called sci-fi appreciators and moviegoers.

I guess everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. Just feel bad for all those people who wont be enjoying this movie in about 10 days from today as I am going to, or am I feeling bad :D.

Even if the movie turns out to be mindless special effect porn, I will most certainly walk away with a smile and positive experience. I mean, if I managed to enjoy Transformers II(most of the visuals, kudos to cg artist colleagues), who are total hardcore cg porn, I guess there shouldn't be any grounded fears for Avatar.

The single fact that the story takes place on a distant lush green planet is pretty much enough to satisfy my appetite even if the story takes fall.

Anyways, of to keep counting days till the "unrealistic blue cat people" hit cinemas xd!!

There are couple of things that are unfinished.

These things are 2d gallery and 3d models, and I hope I'l get it done in next two three days.

Tutorial part is also under construction. It will take few days to get it done.

I have everything, I just need to put the pieces together.

Tru' time I will be adding new tutorials, mostly related to 3d, zbrush and modeling.

As soon as I get it done I'l commit myself 100% to making stuff, loads of it.

wacom cintiq

Wacom Cintiq 12 inch is a brilliant gadget and worth buying if you are one bit serious about computer graphics.

Working in Zbrush with this piece of equipment is really special experience, and once you try it, you are most likely not going back.

Natural feeling of being able to work directly on the surface is way batter then using classical tablet,

and as I tried both, I concluded that this is the way to go, for me that is. Next thing would probably be diodes attached to your head, closed eyes, REM state of mind, and dreaming your stuff into computer :)

Seriously tho', this hardware offers some really neat features and really speeds the workflow up weather you use zbrush, or photoshop, or painter.

Handy express keys, five of them on each side, when customized can drastically increase your productivity, and not to mention all the joy it gives...err, at least in the beginning, later you forget about it even exists.

Materials are tough, pen is solid, not like the other ones I had, that would snap in my hand eventually. It feels durable and lasting thing.

All in all, I love my Cintiq, and S.Sejic, our comic book God xd

Web page update

I've finally uploaded my renewed web page.

It still has some things that aren't finished, around the gallery in particular, but this is whole lot better than it use to be. Im now in phase of optimizing stuff, making it load faster and what not.

I just realized that I made mistakes.

For instance, I have 5 or 6 separate links, index, about, contact, tutorial, gallery and so on..

Each of these have the same exact menu bar and layout with mini banner with my name and title on it. What I did is, I uploaded each repeating item several times, and now, after I realized it, I made some changes, so, now, every element that is repeating anywhere in the web site is loading from one place, index_files folder.

The time of wacom and zbrush exploiting are getting real close :)

Zbrush 3.5 R3 is awesome!

I had my hands on as soon as I got the update link from Pixologic.

I love what the guys at pixo did with this update, especially in regards to 3.5 R2, which in my case had few irritating bugs.

For example, my smooth brush was not working properly.

I posted the issue in troubleshooting thread at zbrush central, but no one knew what was it about, and few people reported that same smooth brush issue like me.

And there were some strange glitches when I was modeling part of geometry in situtations when I had other piece of geometry in perspective behind the mesh I worked on, and the brush focus point, as if zbrush would lost focus, and jumped to the background geometry instead of what was in front.

But never mind that, cos 3.5 R3 works like a charm till this point, and I hope i wont be stumbling on any new bad surprises.

There are couple of insane new and enhanced features, but I'l refer to them later on..

I'm in the middle of remaking my old web page,

I so don't like web design. I recognize the usefulness of it,

and I can appreciate good web design,

but I don't like to be involved in it the way I am now..

In all that changing I decided I'l start a blog, or g-log, g is for graphic,

as I'l try to write about computer graphics, my projects,

and things related to that subject. I like writing,

but I was never that well organized or disciplined to do it.

Anyway, my web page is almost finished.
As soon as I upload it, I'l get back to what I like,

modeling, painting and being super creative.

I'm not even sure, how does one get people to read it's blog entries :D
I guess I'l have to be super creative to find out that answer xd

Ok.

So I started a blog.

I never did this for real, the blogging thing.

I guess I will suck at it for the first couple of weeks, until i figure out what and how I want it to be about.
